The new gaming console from Nintendo, the DSi, really does extend the have-fun filed to new areas. The DSi fits into anyone’s pocket and when you take a look at its features you soon realize that it can change the way most people understand the evolution of entertainment.
The strong points of the DSi are indisputably the fact that it gives a new perspective on what fun means and also the fact that the accessibility is more than immediate.
I can say without exaggerating that the new console from Nintendo is more than a gaming console. It’s actually a media center and it includes features that enable its users to create content and share it with other users.
The Nintendo DSi hit the shelves yesterday (Sunday) and it’s available for $169.99.
Compared to its predecessor, the Nintendo DS Lite, the DSi is a bit thinner and it packs larger screens. But this is not head-turning at all. It’s better; it’s an enhancement, but not earth-shattering.
What does really catch the eye in the DSi configuration is the fact that it features two cameras which can detect the gamer’s reactions and acts accordingly, the fact that it has a removable media card slot and the console’s ability to play digital music. It doesn’t play mp3 though; only AAC. Ouch! Nintendo better change that and quick.
What Nintendo understood and now seems to want to take full advantage of, is that users of gaming consoles not only want to interact with the device and the game it runs, but also with other people. This will most certainly be the new point of focus for future portable gaming consoles.
