Better Bluetooth 3.0 Will Be Unveiled on April 21

The Bluetooth SIG is scheduled to announce Bluetooth 3.0 on April 21 according to a spokeswoman for the Special Interest Group. More precisely, the group will unveil the Generic Alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) that will enable Bluetooth profiles to run at 02.11 speeds.

The bigger and better Bluetooth technology will offer faster connections for the transfer of media files such as video, music or pictures. The current Bluetooth technology is now very good for transferring contact information and low-resolution images, but the new Bluetooth 3.0 will be a game changer. The new technology will offer much higher speeds and will enable users to transfer larger video and music files.

The Bluetooth 3.0 will make full use of the 802.11 technology to handle heftier files without joining a Wi-Fi network. The Bluetooth 3.0 will also pack a feature called "Enhanced Power Control." The EPC’s role is to reduce the incidence of disconnects caused by movement such as placing a phone in a pocket or purse, a company spokeswoman said according to PCMag.com. The Bluetooth 3.0 was initially planed to be released last year and the products unveiled early this year. The group’s spokeswoman said the chip producers were already ready to “roll this out” which means the products will soon be ready.

The new Bluetooth 3.0 standard will most likely deliver even faster short range wireless speeds of up to 480 Mbit/s. this would certainly reduce the risk of device disconnection when syncing. The new technology also stands forward through its low cost and low power consumption. It can be used in devices such as mobile phones where the power consumption is a very important issue.

The Bluetooth SIG said the new technology will enable users to wirelessly transfer "an entire music library, a complete DVD [or] a vacation's worth of photos, all within seconds," the blog DVice wrote. Although it would have been lovely, a list of Bluetooth 3.0-ready devices wasn’t released and probably even made. We will certainly find out more on April 21.

A list with the chip-producing companies that will be using the new technology is also expected to be unveiled on April 21.

Oh, and another thing: the new Bluetooth 3.0 will allow both generic Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-encoded Wi-Fi data packets to run together in the very same network in the same time. this will be achieved through time-slicing.

With the growing smartphone market, the Bluetooth technology has a bone to chew. However, it will still have to face tough competition from the Wireless USB standard which has increased in popularity lately.
