If you ever doubted the success of the Halo Wars, the RTS game based on Halo universe, then Microsoft has already an answer for you. Though, the RTS genre isn’t one of the favorites amongst the console players, it seems like Halo Wars might overthrown this conception.
Since inception, “Halo Wars” was explicitly designed to cater to console gamers and bring to the Xbox 360 a genre that has typically been played on the PC. During the game, players command the armies of the UNSC warship “Spirit of Fire,” consisting of familiar and new UNSC units in its initial encounters against the Covenant, an alien coalition threatening to obliterate mankind.
“Halo Wars” predates the original first-person shooter “Halo.” Fans of the franchise will have the opportunity to experience the early battles between the UNSC and Covenant, the far-reaching conflict that has been diligently followed by the masses in the blockbuster “Halo” series. And it seems there are a lot of gamers ready to immerse themselves in the Halo universe.
Today, Microsoft announced that the game created by now-defunct Ensemble Studios has sold already one million copies worldwide.
Halo Wars was launched in Asia on February 26, in Europe one day later, while the US gamers have waited until early March to get their hands on the game.
The good news is that in the same press release in which was announced the one-million copies triumph, Microsoft said that the newly formed studio Robot Entertainment will bring new content to Halo Wars. However, there are no other details besides this note.
However, Microsoft haven’t fail to notice that with these figures, Halo Wars is now “best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console”
