Jobs: Apple Customers Not Interested To Rent Music

Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, said in an interview with Reuters that Apple’s iTunes customers are not into renting music. Instead they prefer to own the songs they download from iTunes music stores.

In Jobs’s opinion the subscription model has failed so far. Still Steve Jobs didn’t rule out completely a subscription-based scheme. "Never say never, but customers don't seem to be interested in it," Jobs said during the interview.

iTunes Store was launched initially to promote iPod player, but in three years Apple has managed to transform into the biggest online music download service. In February 2006, Apple has celebrated the 1 billionth download from iTunes.

In early April, Apple announced that 2.5 billion songs, 50 million television episodes and over 1.3 million feature-length films have been purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Store, making it the world's most popular online music, TV and movie store.

Also, during last month, in a joint press conference Apple and EMI announced that it will start to sell DRM-free songs on iTunes. Of course, the price of those songs is higher ($1.20 per pieces) than these of the regular songs ($0.99).
