The producers of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” must have counted on kids to be the ones to really enjoy the movie. While it has some pretty interesting moments, the film doesn’t bring anything new to adventure movies – except for the 3D experience.
It will be interesting to see how “Journey to the Center of the Earth” will fare in the box office, but I think it has all the chances of earning a decent amount of money. The fact that the movie was filmed in 3D will certainly attract younger audience, while Jules Verne fans have no reason to skip it, since it is inspired by a classic novel.
Set in our time, the story begins as geology professor Trevor Anderson, played by Brendan Fraser, is visited by his nephew, whose father and Trevor’s brother has disappeared in a expedition to Iceland. Anderson finds out that his brother regarded the “Journey to the Center of the Earth” novel by Jules Verne as a scientific writing and not as a fantasy book.
Trevor, accompanied by his nephew, leaves for Iceland, where he hopes to open aportal to the center of the Earth. Here he meets the attractive guide Hannah, portrayed by Anita Briem. After escaping some dangerous situations the three find the portal, but the world they discover is as deadly as it is beautiful.
The 3D effects that were used in this movie really work wonderfully, but the older audience might feel that the whole film was shot just as a pretext for using them. However, if you are looking just for a relaxing movie that has lots of action and special effects, “Journey to the Center of the Earth” might be a good choice to make.
