On Monday, Lenovo showed official pictures and specifications of its new desktop PC, called the IdeaCentre A600. The new computer will be presented this month in Las Vegas, at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The IdeaCentre A600 is an all in one desktop, in the iMac style. What is interesting, though, is that Lenovo managed to bundle it with high-end hardware and features that will attract both home theater PC users and core gamers. Moreover, the new desktop from Lenovo should also conquer the style-conscious people, as it measures about 1 inch in thickness, less than Apple’s desktop.
As for the extra features other than the hardware itself, it is worth noting that the system comes with an integrated subwoofer, much to the delight of music and movie lovers. However, the most important and revolutionary addition is the remote control, which works in the same way as WiiMote. Using movement sensors and accelerometers, the cursor moves according to the remote’s movements in the air. Many will cherish this nice addition, as it changes the way one plays games.
If you think that is all the remote control can do, you are wrong. More than being a remote itself and a mouse, it can also replicate a VOIP handset, which proves to be very useful when making internet phone calls through Skype or other similar services. In addition, the Lenovo “4-in-1 controller” can also be used as a TV remote control and as a Media Center remote. Therefore, you have just one device which helps you do just about anything, be it Windows UI, Media Center, games or a phone call.
Hardware wise, the IdeaCentre A600 comes with a generous 21.5 inches glossy screen that supports full high-definition rendering, as it has a resolution of 1920x1080. In addition, the system comes with a Dolby-certified audio system. Users can also opt to put a Blu-Ray drive in order to have a complete home theatre experience.
The system is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and graphics are processed through the Intel integrated unit or through an optional ATI discrete graphics unit. The desktop has DDR3 RAM and up to 1TB of storage space. The A600 also comes standard with a wireless network card.
Options include the versatile remote control and an integrated web-cam. The webcam comes with VeriFace support, meaning that users will be able to log in to Windows or other services without entering passwords, in a similar manner as a fingerprint reader does.
The IdeaCentre A600 will be available starting April 2009 and will have a base price of $999.
