Lil Wayne is collecting the results of a hard year’s work. The famous rapper received the award for lyricist of the year at the 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards on Saturday (October 18) in Atlanta. It’s truly a good year to be Lil Wayne. The 26-year-old rapper also received the good news that he will soon be a father.
Lil Wayne shared the good news with the audience. When coming on stage to receive the award, the rapper told the crowd that he was expecting a baby any day now.
"I got a son dropping any day. Pray for me," were the words with which Lil Wayne closed his acceptance speech.
The rapper who is also part of the newly reunited rap group Hot Boys, also received a dozen of other nominations and was also named MVP of the Year and the Alltel Wireless People's Champ. The 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards were hosted by T-Pain, who replaced comedian Katt Williams.
The list of this year’s awards also included names such as DJ Khaled, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Big Boi, Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Birdman and Rick Ross.
Simmons received the "I Am Hip-Hop" Icon award from hip-hop legend LL Cool J, while Shawty Lo was named MySpace Music Rookie of the Year.
Rap legends, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, and Salt-n-Pepa entertained the crowd as they performed on stage.
