NPS Statistics For July Out: Nintendo Rules (Again)

The new numbers for July from NPD have been made public and there aren’t any surprises; Nintendo is still the number one company having sold 608,400 units of its DS console and 555,000 of its Wii gaming console.

Sony only managed to sell 224,000 PS3 units and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 came in third with 204,000. The industry brought in no less than $1.1 billion last month. When comparing this data to that recorded in June, Sony seems to be doing worse, as two months ago, it had sales of 405,000 PS3 units. Microsoft is pretty much the same, as for June it sold 219,000 units.

Switching to games, we find NCAA Football 09 leading the chart, with no less than 397,000 units. Next up we see Wii Fit, which managed to go past the 350,000 unit mark. The Guitar Hero title for the Nintendo DS recorded sales of 309,000; Soul Calibur IV had a very good run having sold 218,000 copies for the Xbox 360 console and 155,800 units for the PS3.

While looking over the top 50 titles, one can easily remark a Nintendo DS dominance, which appears 25 times; the PSP has five more, PS3 and PS2 have three titles each and the Xbox 360 only got two.

With all the new titles and plans the three companies are preparing, things cannot be easily predicted for the following months; NPD is expected to shed some light next month again on the evolution of the gaming market.
