Rumors that the Palm Pre smartphone will be released next month have exploded on the internet.
The device was unveiled last month at CES Las Vegas 2009 and had created a lot of buzz even before the show. Bloggers at Boy Genius Report said they got their hands on an internal document from Sprint which indicated the released date of the smartphone. The exact date indicated in the End of Life list from Sprint is March 15.
Although it is sooner than anyone anticipated, the date is not completely out of the question. When unveiling the Palm Pre at CES Las Vegas, Palm said that the high-end smartphone will be launched in the first half of 2009.
The buzz around the Palm Pre is enormous. It has been only one month since its unveiling and it is already the most anticipated smartphone of 2009. The Palm Pre is the company’s answer at the Apple iPhone, Research In Motion’s BlackBerry Storm and Google Android-based T-Mobile G1.
But whether the Pre will become the long-awaited iPhone killer or will it be just another flop is still to be seen. It certainly was the super star of the CES Las Vegas 2009.
However, considering the fact that Palm will probably want to have a large stock of Palm Pres when the product hits the shelves, the Palm Pre may not really launch in mid-March. A more plausible release date would be mid-April. Not to mention the fact that Palm Pre hasn’t even passed the testing process of the FCC.
