Panasonic Releases Lumix Cameras

Just as the 2009’s edition of the International Consumer Electronics Show ended, Panasonic rolled out three models of its Lumix digital camera series. All the new models cost under $200 and are intended for the budget-conscious users, but they have some of the features that made the Lumix series popular in time.

The DMC-FS15 is the most capable model release by Panasonic yesterday. The camera comes with a 12.1 Megapixel sensor and a wide-angle 29mm Leica DC lens with 5x optical zoom, being the equivalent of 29-145mm on a regular film camera).

Even though it is oriented to get users take photos easy, the FS15 model comes with several appealing features, even for the more experience individuals. As an example, the intelligent auto mode, or iA, analyses the image ready to be taken and automatically adjusts the most appropriate settings.

Basically, with the iA mode, the user only has to seize the moment and press the shutter, as anything ranging from autofocus, automatic red-eye reduction, face detection, image stabilizer and ISO control will do all the necessary work in order to get the most out of the picture.

Another feature of the camera is the new face detection technology, which is actually a new algorithm of the autofocus feature. This means that that the focus is maintained on the subject, even if he moves after the user presses the capture button. This feature will certainly be appreciated in sport scenarios.

Even though the camera is very compact, it still sports a generous 2.7-inch screen. Moreover, the big display features a light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness level between eleven values. Another sought-after feature is the start-up time, which takes just over one second, much to the delight of the spontaneous user.

There is also the Intelligent Scene Selector, which chooses the best mode between Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, and Night Scenery. The lock feature of the auto focus also works in recording mode and, hence, the image will be automatically adjusted depending on the position of the subject of the video.

Along with the $200 FS15 model, Panasonic is also offering the FS7, which essentially shares most of the functionality of the former, but lacking the wide-angle lens and the full Intelligent Auto and the Intelligent Exposure modes. Still, the FS7 will be even more affordable, with a price tag of only $160.

Last, but not the least, the LS85 model off the Lumix line-up is a budget camera that runs on standard AA batteries and sports an 8 Megapixel sensor. The camera will have limited version of iA and Intelligent Exposure, in a similar manner as the FS7.
