BlackBerry users will be pleased to hear that they can now share and stream videos on the Internet directly from their phones through Qik, the social networking company. The announcement was made on Sunday by Qik which already had offered their service to other mobile phone manufacturers like HTC, Motorola, Samsung and some of the models made available by Nokia.
The application for the BlackBerry phones is still in alpha version and can be downloaded directly from the site. Streaming videos is simpler than never as it can be done only in two clicks on the smart phone and, even more, users can engage in a chat with the person streaming the video.
The Qik application on BlackBerry is supported by Pearl 8120, Pearl 8130, Curve 8320, Curve 8330 and the new Blackberry Bold. For optimum performance it is indicated that users have BlackBerry OS 4.5 or higher installed on their gadgets. It has been a great year for social networking companies as phones struggle more than ever to integrate supporting applications for these services. This is a good thing as portability and quick access to all sort of information is the main purpose of smart phones and digital communication, in general.
The Qik application for the iPhone is listed on the social network’s site but does not appear on the App Store which is odd, as the iPhone would be more than capable to use this specific service. Qik has announced that it is also considering launching similar applications for some Sony Ericsson models and other mass market cell phones.
