Sony Ericsson, the fifth-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world, unveiled the newest member of the walkman family mobile phones: the W205 Walkman phone.
The Swedish-Japanese handset maker made the W205 aiming to sell it to newcomers to the portable audio experience through mobile phones. The so-called entry-level handset features a 1.8-inch 128×160 pixels screen, dual-band GSM/GPRS radio, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera with 2.2x digital zoom. The device also packs FM radio, TrackID, multiple phone books and 5MB of internal memory (expandable of course).
The Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman phone measures 92×47x16.4 mm, and weighs 96 grams.
The company will launch two versions of the W205: one “standard” version that supports 900 and 1800 MHz bands and is aimed at the European and Asian markets, and a version that supports 850 and 1900 MHz frequencies and is made for North and South America.
Although the W205 is directed to the low end segment, it has a quite classy design. Considering the fact that it’s a walkman phone, the W205 is most likely full of music-oriented features.
Sony Ericsson is expected to launch the new mobile phone sometime this quarter. The price hasn’t been disclosed yet.
The phone maker also announced it will soon launch the S312, a low-end camera phone. This one is part of the company’s Snapshot family of handsets. The S312 features a 2 megapixel camera with 2.5 digital zoom, illuminated camera shortcuts, dedicated video camera key and picture blogging app. This one has 15MB of internal memory which also can be expanded via Memory Stick Micro (M2). The S312 also packs a media player, TrackID, Bluetooth connectivity support and a 2-inch 176×220 pixels screen.
