Sony to Launch New PSP Go! UMD-Free

More and more details about the rumored Sony's new PlayStation Portable are emerging.

According to 1Uo.com, Sony will unveil its new Universal Media Disc-less PSP during the Electronic Entertainment Expo which takes place in June and plans to launch it in Japan in September and in the United States in November.

Besides losing its UMD drive, the new PSP - which is rumored to be called PSPS Go! - will also get a cosmetic makeover. The name is probably derived from the company's recent usage of Go! on the European PSP peripherals such as Go!View and Go!Cam.

The new PSP's controls will slide out, but it wont feature dual analog sticks (as hoped). The PSP Go! will have the same control scheme. It's not sure whethe it will also have a touch screen. There are rumors that it will.

According to the report from 1Up.com, the new PSP will most likely borrow numerous design features from their Mylo 2 hand held Internet device. The Web site also mentioned that the new PSP will offer two configurations: one with 8GB of internal memory and another one with 16GB.

The UMD will make place for a digital-download delivery system for games. "Since the UMD is going away, Sony will have over 100 classic and new PSP titles available for download at launch," 1Up reported.
