During the years between Episodes III and IV, Darth Vader takes a secret apprentice, Starkiller, and puts him to work by making him kill the few remaining Jedi. The players will interact with Vader, of course, but Starkiller spends most of his time with an android called Proxy and his female pilot, Juno Eclipse. In a nutshell those are the premises for the new “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” computer game.
The official release party took place Monday night at a Best Buy outlet in San Francisco’s Mission district. It is certainly one of the most anticipated games this year. It appears that there was a multi-platform launch that includes versions for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS (and rumor has it, eventually the PC). It is also available for the iPhone.
The game is very cool, though. It’s surprisingly fun despite its few useless turns. You can grab any number of objects and characters using your force grip power, and when combined with other skills like force lightning and force push, you can fling stormtroopers into Wookiees, crush Felucian tribal leaders under boulders, and smash AT-STs with scattered barrels. It makes you want to boast with your unimaginable powers.
All of the action in The Force Unleashed takes place on the top screen of the DS, while the touch screen has "buttons" for your six basic actions. You move your character using the control pad and trigger your actions using the touch screen. It’s as easy as that.
"Unleashed" takes advantage of two new technologies, Digital Molecular Matter, by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd, meaning that the game has even more credibility, with natural looking behavior from both the objects and enemies throughout the game.
