Thousands of "Star Wars" fans marked the movie’s 30th anniversary roaming the Los Angeles Convention Center Friday sporting Jedi knight costumes, white-armors and bun-shaped hairdos, Princess Leia-like.
Labeled as the world’s biggest "Star Wars" party, opened to the general public as thousands of fans young and old shopped for memorabilia, posed for photographs and generally immersed themselves in ways of "the Force."
"This can be one-stop shopping for fans to experience everything they would want in the 'Star Wars' world," said John Singh, a spokesman for "Star Wars" creator George Lucas' production company, Lucasfilm, a sponsor of the event.
Also, the "Star Wars" web site was entirely redesigned to allow users create "Star Wars" fan films on www.StarWars.com., using personal footage, and to post their work online.
In a press release, Jeff Ulin, senior director of distribution and online for Lucasfilm Ltd., said the success of "Star Wars" is built upon the fans.
"They have shown enormous creativity and desire to have fun and express themselves through ‘Star Wars.’ Our new site brings our fans innovative tools like the Eyespot editor that lets them do just that in exciting new ways," Ulin said.
The original "Star Wars" movie, later renamed "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," became a huge hit shortly after its release, spawning two sequels titled "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."
